Community

Tamborine Mountain Creative Arts Association has a long history on Tamborine Mountain with a reputation for helping the community at large in many ways.

Several of our members participate in making items for the Gold Coast University Hospital Foundation shop – every month our members make a large delivery of handmade items from knitted baby clothes, children’s jumpers and hats to fabric and knitted toys and fabric shopping bags.

Our “Patchwork’ ladies have hand-made over 30 quilts for the ‘CNC Together in Mind’ program which is part of the Lavender Mother Baby service run by the Gold Coast University Hospital, which recognises Mental Health & Specialist services helping postnatal mothers and their babies. These new families attend a 6 week course and on their first day are given a baby quilt which they then take home with them.

Another group of our Creative Arts members makes Breast Cushions for our local hospitals, for women who have had breast cancer. These dedicated ladies produced 1200 of these cushions during the last financial year, and are known as our “Garage Girls”. They also make drip bags for those people who are having Chemotherapy.

Our General Craft group knit pouches for the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. These are made in varying sizes to accommodate all our native babies who are in need of care for whatever reason.
